Who is Linda McCulloch?
Linda McCulloch was born December 21, 1954. She has been married to Bill McCulloch since 1978.
Linda has dedicated her life to public service.
Public Education
Linda began her service to Montana's students in 1978 as a paraprofessional at St. Labre School, and spent 20 years teaching in Missoula and Bonner.
Montana House of Representatives
Linda served three terms in the Montana House of Representatives, from 1995 to 2001. As a legislator, she served on the Judiciary, Highways & Transportation, Local Government, Education and House Rules Committees, and interim Committee assignments included Juvenile Justice & Mental Health, Indian Affairs, and Education & Local Government. In 1999, she served as the Minority Caucus Leader.
State Superintendent of
Public Instruction
Linda was elected State Superintendent in November 2000. During two terms her accomplishments include:
Employing effective use of technology to strengthen the Office of Public Instruction services and communication with schools and the public.
Passing Full-Time Kindergarten so Montana's children have the opportunity to get the best possible start to their education.
Implementing Montana Read! a statewide reading initiative, convening three statewide summits.
Championing legislation to create an Honorary High School Diploma program for WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans that left school to serve our country.
Obtaining nearly $80 million in competitive grants that support for services to schools, such as reading and school drop out prevention.
Advocating for rural education regarding No Child Left Behind
Other Professional Accomplishments
Linda holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Supervision of Library Media Programs from the University of Montana.
From 1995 to 2000, Linda McCulloch served as a Faculty Affiliate at the University of Montana. Linda is a recipient of the Mike and Maureen Mansfield Library Scholarship.
In her constitutional capacity as State Superintendent, Linda serves on the Board of Public Education, Board of Regents, Board of Education, Montana Library Commission and State Land Board.
She also serves as a board member for Northwest Regional Educational Laboratories and the Montana Professional Teaching Foundation.
She is active in community and civic organizations.
